Hershey Chocolate World

Hershey Chocolate World

Hershey Chocolate World started out with a single attraction showcasing the production of Hershey's chocolate. Over the years it has grown to include multiple interactive attractions that can easily keep kids and adults entertained and engaged for hours.

Hershey Great American Chocolate Tour

Often referred to as simply "the Hershey Tour", this free tour is clearly the most popular attraction at Hershey Chocolate World. In fact, I can't imagine our family making a trip to Hershey without taking the tour, even though we've seen it a dozen times!

Hershey tour

After boarding a tour vehicle, participants follow the cacao beans' journey from a tropical rain forest to Hershey, PA where they become yummy Hershey chocolate treats. Highlights include the animatronic singing cows and the fabulous smell of the cacao bean being transformed into chocolate. Of course, the tour is strictly a simulation as Hershey's actual production facilities are not open to the public.

As you exit the tour, there is an opportunity to purchase a ride photo that was snapped during the tour. The photos are a little pricey, but they do make a nice souvenir of your trip to Hershey. At the end of the tour, all riders receive a mini sample of a Hershey product. Years ago full size Hershey bars were distributed, but these days you're more likely to receive a couple Hershey Kisses.

Chocolate Tasting Adventure

New in 2009, this is the place to learn about chocolate and taste the various types of chocolate including milk, dark and others. At the completion of the Chocolate Tasting Adventure, participants a Masters Degree in chocolate tasting from the Hershey's University. Tasting times vary daily.

Insider Tip: If you prefer your chocolate in liquid form, you may want to pass on the Chocolate Tasting Adventure at Hershey Chocolate World and opt for the one at the Hershey Museum. The museum chocolate tasting features warm drinking chocolate samples from around the world.

Hershey's Really Big 3D Show

Hershey 3d show

Dancing Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Hershey bars and other Hershey product characters appear to jump off the screen in this musical adventure that recaps Hershey's history. The show is definitely geared toward kids, but the special effects should keep adults entertained as well. The show is presented multiple times each day in Hershey Chocolate World's 250-seat theater.

Hershey's Factory Works

The Factory Works attraction is probably the closest most people will get to experiencing the life of a Hershey's factory worker. After donning an employee ID and hat, participants (mostly kids)take their place on the production line and get to operate the Kiss Works machine.

Other activities in Factory Works include sending a chocolate greeting card, personalizing a candy wrapper, creating a customized frozen yogurt sundae or bake shop cupcake with an assortment of Hershey toppings.

Hershey Trolley Works

A Hershey tour via an old-fashioned trolley car is a great way to experience this charming town. Tours range from 35 minutes to 60 minutes depending on the format you select. Each tour takes you past the actual Hershey's factory and the mansion of Milton S. Hershey. Some of the tours make a stop at one of several Hershey attractions while other tours use actors to entertain while they tell the Hershey story.

Hershey Trolley Tour

Our family has always enjoyed the Christmas Adventure Trolley that starts running around Thanksgiving and continues through the holiday season. This very family-friendly trip through town includes caroling, jingle bells and a visit from the man-in-red. The kids are always thrilled when Santa finds their names on the "nice list" and personally hands them a little gift. This holiday Hershey tour is extremely popular and sells out quickly.

Trolley Works tours depart from the Hershey Chocolate Factory daily. Trolley tokens/reservations can be obtained inside the main lobby of Chocolate World. Trolley tokens can only be purchased on the day of the tour.

Market Place Shops

In a nod to the Hershey Marketing Department, it is impossible to exit the Great American Chocolate Tour without passing through the Market Place. Here you will find all things Hershey including clothing, toys, collectibles and of course, every brand of Hershey confections. There are plenty of tins of chocolate and other sweet gifts. When we visit around the holidays, we usually find nice gift items for people on our gift giving list like school bus drivers, scout leaders and coaches. The Market Place has a mini food court with seating and tropical plants. A la carte items include soups, sandwiches, pizza, salads and pasta. For dessert, a visit to the Hershey Bake Shop is a must!

Insider Tip: Hershey Chocolate World offers special activities and events around Halloween, at Christmastime and throughout the month of February during the Chocolate Covered February celebration.
