Strasburg Railroad &
Strasburg Railroad Museum
Strasburg Railroad is a must-see attraction for train enthusiasts of all ages. The railroad is located in historic Strausburg, PA in the heart of Pennsylvania Dutch Country. A visit here can be a full day outing or just a two hour stop over if you're also visiting some of the other nearby attractions.
Riding the Rails
The big draw of Strasburg Railroad is the 45 minute steam train rides through the peaceful and scenic Amish countryside. Trains typically run daily from late May through October and then weekends and/or select days in other months. There are holiday themed rides including the Easter Bunny Train and Santa's Express.
You can select seating in the First-Class Parlor where food and beverage can be purchased, in coach or in an open air car. If you choose to sit in the dining car, you can enjoy lunch or dinner during your train ride.
Train rides here aren't just for kids (although kids seem to love them!). The railroad offers a Wine and Cheese Train on select evenings from April-November for the over 21 set as well as a twice yearly wine tasting train ride. Themed rides such as Murder Mystery Trains are also offered throughout the year.
Insider Tip: There is limited seating available in the First-class Parlor and Dining Car. We recommend purchasing advance tickets if you wish to sit in these areas. Advance tickets are almost always a must for theme trains and special events.
Strasburg Railroad Museum
Although not part of Strasburg Railroad, this museum is located directly across the street. Although many people refer to it as the Strasburg Railroad Museum, the actual name is the Pennsylvania Railroad Museum. With over 100,000 square feet of indoor exhibits and a large outdoor restoration yard, the Strasburg Railroad Museum offers plenty to see and do.
The museum features over 100 historic locomotives and vintage railroad cars made or operated in Pennsylvania. One of the more popular attractions is the Cab Simulator where visitors can take the throttle on a simulated run in an authentic Norfolk Southern freight locomotive cab.
The Strasburg Railroad Museum also features a museum store, research library and archives, a gallery, a railway education center with hands-on activities for all ages and a restoration shop. The museum offers special events throughout the year along with special tours for groups. If you're planning to visit the railroad and the museum, be sure to purchase a discounted combo ticket.
After you finish riding the rails, don't head for the parking lot. There are a number of other fun activities here. Depending on the type of pass purchased (all day pass, combo pass, etc.)some of these activities may have an additional charge.

Sleep at the Red Caboose Motel
Looking for a unique lodging experience in Lancaster County? The Red Caboose Motel may be just what you're looking for. The motel offers 40 guest rooms made from fully restored railroad cabooses. It all started back in the 1960s when, on a dare, the former motel owner bought 19 old cabooses at auction for $100.
Lodging here is fun and family oriented. There is an on-site restaurant (located in a refurbished railroad coach, of course!), gift shop, petting zoo and playground. The Red Caboose Motel is within walking distance to the railroad.
Day Out with Thomas
Everyone's favorite engine, Thomas the Tank, pulls into the Strasburg Station three times per year. Little ones love the 22 minute train ride pulled by Thomas.
During Day Out With Thomas, look for a variety of Thomas-themed activities which often include storytelling, visits by Sir Topham Hatt, temporary tattoos of Island of Sodor friends and more. Of course, the railroad gift shop is always stocked with plenty of Thomas merchandise.
